PROFESSOR GIDEON H.N. NYAMASYO
PROFESSOR GIDEON H.N. NYAMASYO :
Dr. Gideon H.N. Nyamasyo is a distinguished professor with a PhD in Zoology, MSc in Agricultural Entomology, and a BSc in Zoology, has been championing agroecology, biodiversity, and innovative natural animal production for marginalized smallholder farmers in rural areas spanning since 1975. With over four decades of experience, Dr. Nyamasyo has become a leading figure in the field of precision farming and citizen science research.
Dr. Nyamasyo expertise in zoology and agricultural entomology has allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the complex relationships between animals, plants, and the environment. This knowledge has been instrumental in designing and implementing sustainable farming practices that promote biodiversity, enhance crop yields, and reduce the need for harmful chemical inputs.
He is the founder of Pollen Glory farm. In his role as the lead scientist, Dr. Nyamasyo has worked closely with specialists, local and international agencies, and smallholder farmers to identify their specific needs and challenges in the agricultural value chain. By using precision farming techniques and innovative natural animal production methods, he has been able to develop tailored solutions that improve the livelihoods of these farmers, promote best animal production practices and contribute to the conservation of local ecosystems.
- Nyamasyo educational journey began with a B.Sc. in Zoology, which provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the biological and ecological principles governing animal life. This foundation allowed him to develop a deep appreciation for the intricate connections between animals and their environments.
- Next, he pursued an M.Sc. in Agricultural Entomology, a specialized field that focuses on the study of insects and their interactions with agricultural crops. This degree equipped him with the knowledge and skills necessary to address insect-related issues in agricultural settings and to develop effective pest management strategies.
- Finally, Dr. Nyamasyo completed a Ph.D. in Zoology, further expanding his expertise in the field. This advanced degree allowed him to conduct original research, contribute to the scientific community, and enhance his understanding of the complex processes governing animal life.
All through Dr. Nyamasyo career experience, he has held various positions in research, academia, and consulting. His work has focused on a wide range of topics, including insect ecology, wildlife management, and conservation biology.
Some of his major work in research and publication areas include: –
- Behavior of the Weaver Birds
- Use of insecticides to control cotton pests
- The ecology of grasslands termites and their predation by ants
